Mission 6: Fear the reaper

RE: Mission 6: Fear the reaper
This mission wouldn't be so hard if It weren't for the fact that the AI on the Charon is not allowed to be touched, yet at the same time Is completely suicidal and has absolutely no grasp on the concept of self preservation.

I want to pull it back behind the other ships and have repair tentacles on the back repair a high damage sister ship I've brought in, but the naval AI says duck that and wants to charge head first into the enemy missles. and should I dare touch the suicidal naval AI that has no grasp on tactics I will fail the mission instantly. This is extremely annoying, especially when I have to simultaneously manage my ships and resource allocation AND fight with the suicidal AI for control of the ship.

RE: Mission 6: Fear the reaper
I'm not really sure what the previous person means by 'touching the AI'. It almost sounds like their plan was to blast the mainframe on their Charon. While I can understand that desire, it's not really the issue here.

I was eventually able to succeed at this one by trading the escort vehicles for a single Basher, and immediately setting the Charon's AI to 'ON' and throwing the throttle in reverse when the mission started. Having to turn the Charon broadside to make use of its weapons is inconvenient, particularly since it makes the Charon a bigger target. Then again, pointing the front at the enemy generally results in the player taking a sabot round to the face.

The Charon isn't very well protected, and the SS ships have quite a bit of high AP firepower.

Ill re-review the balance of this mission after the SS overhaul is done, going to be a lot of SS ships that need changed here anyway.

This mission is impossible. You get one air ship you get explodes immediately, and then the main ship just randomly dies all the time. Also you have no protection and the player character tends to randomly die as well. There's no missile defense on any of the ships either, and you are way way out-numbered.

And then on top of all of it, a bunch of bombers show up too.

(Or maybe I'm just really really bad at playing.)

Most missions your supposed to replace the built-in designs with your own designs that are built to do the mission better. You "can" do it with Default stuff, you just have to build on them and use fleet moves and targeting for maximum effectiveness.
The Airship and the smaller ship you can replace.
The main ship you have to use, but you can modify it in mission, just quickly put a chair and wheel inside the ship if you are dying too much. I also suggest replacing the Missile turret on the main ship with a Pre-built turret of some kind that is better.

Since WF ships have gotten weaker due to some APS changes months ago, ill go ahead and remove 1 of the 3 Helicopters the SS comes in with.

Nice! Thanks for the quick reply!

That seems like an odd way to set up a campaign, haha. Wouldn't it make more sense to have the slots start empty then? And to pick ships from your faction?
(And I think it would be nice feature if you could pick from all the ships belonging to your faction without having to save them as your own first.)

Also, I still don't understand the point of the spinning flying vehicle. It's never really done anything but explode in the first 10 seconds of the game. I guess it's the result of some changes that were made?

I'll try again with some custom ships then, thanks.

(Edit: It worked. I just had to toss a ton of armor on the front and repairbots, throw it in full reverse, and replace the ships with two of the ones with the cannons on top. )
