In case anyone is interested.

In hindsight, I didn't need as much anti missile/torpedo defence and should have had more armour around the core systems (steam engines and ammo).

Here's the blueprint of the Mark IX.
I probably should have cut back on the CIWS a bit as it presents a large weak point in the armour.

The thing about tournaments without shields is, while I prefer it that way, I get to have more fun, lately most tournaments coming out have had shield restrictions. Or maybe I'm just only participating in the ones where shields are banned...

Anyhow, ideas...
Startership Brawl: You get 2k materials plus the resources the starter ship gets you when you scrap it in Neter. Low fuel and material restrictions, as you "wouldn't have time to set up a refinery or store up materials". Bonus if theres a standard builder base to be used and creates your vehicle with repair tentacles.

Reactive Building: Each week / 2 weeks you get a picture of a boss vehicle and a material limit. You gotta use only that info to make a craft that can beat it. When the dead line for one ends, the picture and limit for the next one gets released. Maybe use a points system to see who can defeat the target more often. You can also crowdsource designs from a few people secretly building. Or maybe make the winner of a week's (round? Best score?) be the one to build the vehicle for the next after next round.

PAC me up scotty: PACs gallore. We finally get to see how to properly build against them.

Cargo assault: You get an unarmed, speed restricted Cargo Hauler. Not sure if provided or you build it yourself. This ship should spawn in fleet move and basically go straight ahead on a route, with minor course adjustments allowed. Then you get to build an offensive and a defensive fleet. No weapons and the Hauler being big or blocky allows you to set LWC to target the cargo hauler rather than the escorts as assault. Defend gets to be able to use fleet move to maintain formation with the cargo hauler if wanted.
% hp of the Cargo Hauler is what decides the match, at the end of the time limit. As soon as the hauler is gone the battle ends. Maybe have time as a factor too. You can even have the two ladders offense and defence separate and do a round robin to have lots of different battles, but if you want to record less, force entries to have both the attack and defense fleet submited and then do round one P1's assault vs P2's defense, round two P1's defense vs P2's attack and a third round decided by player preference: Who did more damage faster to the other's defense gets the pick which own fleet it uses, the assault or defense. This choice is submitted with the entries.

This helps? Which ones are crazy?

I like the starter ship idea. Starter ship is worth 4166, plus 2000, so 6166 total budget. Lets make it an even 6k for simplicity sake.

I'll get a thread started this weekend, and we can hash out the details.

I really like that startership idea. However, I sorta suggest increasing the mat limit to about 10k, since people typically scrap or heavily refit the main base. Simply removing the CRAM and some other extra stuff would get you another 2-4k materials, I think. Also, make sure that multiple vehicles are allowed, I want me some smol plenes.
