Aided by nearly 6 years’ worth of historical reference material at the warrelics.eu forums, I set out to build a replica of the famous merchant submarine U-Deutschland, and like the historical vessel, converted it into a U-Kreuzer configuration for unrestricted submarine warfare.
Assembled in 1.5:1 scale for maximum detail and a walkable interior, the 1917 U-Kreuzer replica is a representation of a U-151 type First World War cruiser submarine in fully armed configuration – a pair each of 150mm and 88mm deck guns, plus 2 internal and 4 external torpedo tubes. This hybrid U-151/U-155 loadout was chosen in the interest of gameplay considerations – 2 torpedo tubes would never be adequate in the current version of FtD!
